GAME RECAP

Senior quarterback Caleb Canady completed 18 of 22 passes for 296 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Morrilton High School football team to a 35-7 victory over Vilonia Friday night on Senior Night at Devil Dog Stadium. The Devil Dogs got the scoring started on their second possession of the game with a 30-yard pass from Canady to senior Deiontae Duncan, who finished with a career-high 12 receptions for 172 yards to earn Colton's Offensive Player of the Game honors. Canady would connect with senior Grahm Heidenreich at the 8:40 mark of the second quarter on a 56-yard touchdown for the Dixon Family Dental Big Smile Play of the Game. Senior Lane Granberry had the first of his two one-yard touchdown runs minutes later to give the Devil Dogs a 21-0 halftime lead. After the Eagles started the second-half scoring with an eight-yard run by quarterback Luke Gordon, Morrilton answered with an 18-yard touchdown pass from Canady to sophomore Dylan White to go up 28-7 with 2:43 remaining in the third quarter. Granberry would cap the scoring with his second touchdown at the 4:12 mark in the fourth quarter. Heidenreich finished with 83 yards on four receptions. Senior Oshae Erby was the leading rusher with 58 yards on ten carries. Junior Danny Smith had 54 yards on ten carries. Sophomore kicker Jesus Arias was five-for-five on extra points. Senior Alex Chambers led the defense with a career-high 14 tackles and a sack and was named the Colton's Defensive Player of the Game. Granberry and seniors Jordan Foster and Zach Gullett also had sacks for the Devil Dogs. Granberry, senior Sam York and junior Brandon Russell all finished with nine tackles, junior Jackson Joyner recovered a fumble and sophomore Dalton Kellar broke up three passes from his cornerback position. With the win, the Devil Dogs improve to 3-5 overall, 3-2 in the 5A West, tied with Harrison for third place in the conference. The Devil Dogs play at Farmington this week. The Cardinals were edged by Maumelle, 22-20, on Friday. Elsewhere in the 5A West, Alma smoked Harrison, 49-14, and Greenbrier thumped Clarksville, 36-8.
